With just a couple of clicks, I was able to rock out a bitchin’ logo for my business or product! This will look great at 600px x 600px on my free website I’m building thanks to my Tax Software!!!!

(Seriously, this is what we’re up against people. So the next time someone says “Why so much?” for a logo or web design… point them towards these guys, they’re the one REALLY Rockin’ teh Interwebz!)

On the plus side, when you download your creation, they do provide 10 files, including .png versions, and 1 .eps version. :-}

Wondering when the downside to lists will come: Suppose I created a list called “Zipperheads” or “Dumb People”… might cause a stir

Twitter just released the List function to all (or most) users, and people are busy playing with the feature, constructing new lists from the people they’re following. So far it seems to be a big hit with users, who are generally constructing subsets of other users based on what they tweet about, where they live, or generally positive attributes. But what happens when people use the Twitter list function to slam other users and/or brands in the social media space?

Is it so far fetched to think that, for example, a power user with hundreds of thousands of followers would put together a list called “Brands that Suck” or that a list called “Suspected Terrorist Sympathizers”? Aside from the personal affronts possible, what does this new feature mean for your brand? Hopefully Twitter users will only use their new-found power for good, but anyone who’s been on the intertubez for more than 10 minutes knows there will be some who will use it for “evil.”

In the mean time, I’m off to finish my list of zipperheads…

September 30, 1917 – The world was given Buddy Rich.

Sometime in 1977 – I became the hippest 10-year-old cat I knew.

I bounded into Ron Whitney’s Drum & Guitar Studio in Iselin, NJ ready to take on the world; drums were cool, and I was about to wow Ron with my mad percussion skills. He handed me a set of sticks and what would become my guidebook for the next 12 years: Buddy Rich’s Modern Interpretation of Snare Drum Rudiments. Needless to say, Ron was not wowed, and I quickly learned the term “woodshedding“.

After staring at the black & white picture on the front cover for a few weeks, I started learning just who this guy was; I mean he had to be pretty good, even my parents knew who he was, and they knew nothing about music. Slowly but surely I found out. I’d hear one of Buddy’s tunes on WBGO now and then, but in 1981, Buddy reached the pinnacle of fame for the under-15 crowd: a guest spot on The Muppet Show (Yes, that drum battle is below). Ron told me stories about Buddy (Buddy knew Ron as “the Cat from Tomatoland”); I caught Buddy live a couple of times thanks to my sister (Mom & Dad were just not hip enough to take us, but my sister was; after all, she was taking drum lessons from Ron too!).

So on the 92nd Anniversary of Buddy’s birth, here are a collection of videos of the master at work:

A pretty simple design, using everyone’s favorite: Helvetica, printed on black Haines Beefy-T’s, so they’re nice and heavy-weight… none of those whimpy 50/50 blends for NBCC!
