I have been working with the New Brunswick Cultural Center (NBCC) since 2006, developing their first website before Twitter was even founded. The original site was developed using the Joomla platform in early 2006, and was showing all of the issues that a 10-year-old website develops. Newer technologies were no longer working well with the aging site, and they needed a fresh web presence.
As an umbrella organization for Cultural and Arts organizations in New Brunswick, NJ, NBCC’s website needed to reflect the breadth and width of the Arts available in the city. Budget and speed were also major concerns. With a rich history with the organization, I was able to move the site to a WordPress platform utilizing the Divi theme and builder to rapidly develop the new site. A key feature for the site is the collective events calendar which pulls all of the events happening in the city (and beyond) from over 20 Arts organizations, ranging from fully-staffed theaters to single, volunteer staff community-based groups.
A premium WordPress plugin was purchased for the calendar function that allows for the import of events from these groups, and presents them in a single calendar.
The result is a vibrant, colorful new site that shows off the rich Cultural life of New Brunswick, the “Hub City” of Central New Jersey.
